Fiber-Optic Standards
Standards have existed as long as commerce has. Without standards it would be impossible to say how the new technologies existed. The FOA and NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) in 2001 cooperated to develop the first ANSI standard (American National Standard) covering the installation of fiber optic cable plants. This section describes procedures for installing, testing, and commissioning of systems that use fiber-optic cables and related components to carry signals for telecommunications, control, and similar purposes. The intent of the standard is to define a minimum level of quality for fiber-optic cable installations.
