Soft Addictions

In a society where fast pace is the norm and having entertainment at our fingertips.  A soft addiction gets in the way of leading a fulfilling life because. As people we can be addicted to pretty much anything. You may think of coffee or watching TV, playing video games, a harmless habit but this can be a physically and psychologically dependent. As we depend on the artifacts of this devices and the wake up effect of coffee. These things affect our lifestyles by taking precious time away from our family. Often we consider adapting to these addictions to escape from reality, drinking a cup of coffee to get a boost of energy for the day. Just for some entertainment we watch TV for hours. So we rely on soft addiction to get us through the day.
Soft addiction has affected my live in different ways. When I was in high school I was addicted to online video games. There was a time when I would get upset because my parents would not let me play for more the 2 hours.  My father would make me do homework and house chores before I could play. Although eventually I was able to play, I really couldn't enjoy myself because all of my friends were offline. I was so tired of all the chores and homework that I had to do. This was a distraction at school I saw that this soft addiction affected my grades.
In an essay Leah McLaughlin writes about soft addiction. In shaky times like this we often associate stress to soft addiction. Coffee, TV, and the Internet are examples of soft addictions.  Leah McLaughlin wrote “when you understand what soft addictions enable you to avoid and when you learn to control these cravings you’re more likely to get what you really want out of life ( 2014, P. 138.)”. It is damaging to put these addictions before your family. Soft addictions can put strain on a relationship, interfere with our lives.

Limit yourself to watching TV for a certain amount of time is a start of breaking the habit. Drinking only one cup of coffee a day would be a start for breaking the habit. Playing video games for only one hour a day. This is a result of kicking the habit but this is not always easy. Soft addictions can be tricky to break, even though you decide to switch to an herbal tea. Or read a book instead of watching TV. This can feel very uncomfortable and stressful at times. So set yourself some intermediate goals so you can feel good about yourself.
